DAYAW is a yearly Indigenous Peoples Festival in the Philippines that is celebrated every October, the Indigenous Peoples month. The festivity which is paticipated by various ethno-linguistic groups in the Philippines is in pursuant to Presidential Proclaimation No. 1906 that is initiated and led by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) under its Subcommission on Cultural Communities and Traditional Arts (SCCTA) and the Ugnayang Pang-Agham Tao, Inc. (UGAT) in cooperation with agencies and local governments.
- Provide venue for indigenous peoples to celebrate the richness of their culture
- Allow cultural exchanges that will foster deeper cultural understanding to sustain a culture of peace
- Provide opportunity to discuss IP rights
- Give students and other people a chance to deepen their awareness and appreciation of indeginous cultures
- Recognize the expertise and contributions of indeginous communities; and
- Advocate for the preservation as well as integration of traditional culture into the national cultural mainstream
